For the “Tigers in the Wild” EP, MUDDYLOOP take a hiatus from their electro-pop ventures, this time ditching the vocals and going back to their early days of samplers, synths, and big, bangin’ basslines. The result is an up-tempo 6 track EP that combines French Touch, Italo and Nu-Disco vibes.

Kicking off this collection is the downright dirty and sinister title track. Opening with an obscure 80s guitar sample, the tension is built with filtered oscillating pads and sombre bass tones, until the chorus pounces like a tiger on its prey with a twisted bassline of pure unadulterated synth funk.

“Push the Night” keeps the night-time funk going, this time combining a filtered guitar lick á la Daft Punk, and big 80s synth chords, before the proceedings are slowed right down for the soul-sample-drenched “If I Die”. Here lo-fi pianos meet warped synths to create an emotional punch which quietly evokes Moby’s ‘Natural Blues’.

Keeping the downtempo theme going, “Worlds Apart” uses cleverly pitched down vocal samples to good effect, this time as a bed for a dreamy combination of classic house leads and 90s RnB groove with a jacking bass line to match.

Moving on, MUDDYLOOP bring back the urgency with “Frontier”. Its familiar opening sample, now pitched up, is given a new lease of life by the frenzied arpeggiated lead, screaming synths and trademark rhythmic bassline that ride alongside it.

To close off the EP, MUDDYLOOP find a way to meld 80s power balladry – think e-pianos and synth whimsy - with bouncy dance production on “Control”, surely an anthem in the making, which signs off with the poignant and hypnotic call to arms to “lose control, set you free...”
